Questions people ask at this point
What is included in the monthly price?
The furnished room, your share of the common areas, heating, water, electricity and internet. One figure, paid on the first of the month.
How much is the deposit?
One month's rent. You get it back after the final inspection, minus anything that needs repairing beyond normal wear.
How long can I stay?
It depends on the room. Some are open-ended, some are fixed-term with an end date. The contract type is written on every listing before you commit.
Can I see the room first?
Yes, and we recommend it. If you are not in Switzerland yet, we will walk you through the whole flat on a video call instead.
Is the contract in English?
You can have it in English or German. Both versions say the same thing.
Do I need a Swiss job or a permit to rent?
We ask for proof that you can pay the rent, which can be an employment contract, a university enrolment or a guarantor. Tell us your situation and we will tell you straight away whether it works.
Can couples share a room?
In some homes, yes. Double rooms are marked as such on the listing and are priced differently from single rooms.
Who do I contact when something breaks?
Us. Every home has a maintenance contact, and you do not negotiate with the building owner yourself.
Do you register me with the commune?
You register yourself, as every resident in Switzerland does, and we give you the documents you need for it, including the landlord confirmation.
What happens if I need to leave early?
Talk to us as soon as you know. The notice period is in your contract, and we will tell you what it means in your case rather than leaving you to work it out.
